And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together. — John 4:36
My father planted acres of soybeans. He tended his crop all summer, praising God for a good growing season. The fall harvest looked promising.
Just as Dad^s soybeans were ready to combine, my husband was diagnosed with a terminal illness and required immediate surgery. Dad and Mom left the farm and came to support my family. While Dad was at the hospital with us, his brothers combined his soybeans, harvesting the crop Dad had planted.
When Dad’s grain was safely stored, he and his brothers rejoiced. It didn’t matter that the brothers had reaped what Dad had sowed. What mattered was that they had worked together to harvest the increase God had given.
Likewise, we as Christians are to work together in God’s kingdom. Sometimes we plant the seed of the gospel. Other times we witness the joy of seeing a person accept Christ. Together, we can fulfill God’s master plan.
GOD, WHETHER I’M SOWING OR REAPING, LET ME REJOICE IN THE FACT THAT I AM DOING YOUR WORK.
